Appointment With Fear 12 Episodes
Appointment with Fear is a classic British horror and suspense series first broadcast by BBC Radio in 1943 and revived several times over the following decades. Each program presented a dramatized horror story of about half an hour, introduced by the sinister host known as The Man in Black. The plays mixed classic tales by writers such as Edgar Allan Poe, M. R. James, and W. W. Jacobs with stories written especially for the series, making it one of the most respected horror programs on British radio. The Stars The Man in Black was voiced by Valentine Dyall, whose deep, menacing voice became one of the most famous sounds of wartime British radio. Many of the early scripts were written or adapted by the great mystery author John Dickson Carr, and the series was produced by Martin C. Webster. Key Dates Broadcast Years – 1943 to the 1950s, with later revivals into the 1970s Network – BBC Genre – Horror, Suspense, Mystery Episode Length – Approximately 30 minutes Other Information Appointment with Fear shared a great deal with the American series Suspense.
